If Time Could Talk
If time could talk, what would it tell you
that it had been many places, seen many faces and shared many memories
that it had been scarred by the baron voids of this lifetime
that this day and age is remotely dislocated from the unity of past decades
that we have strayed far from the people we once were
If time could talk, would we walk toward the light?
Would we fight for what is right and stand up for the blemished?
Would we fold into this society and accept the morally bankrupt notions
and motions of the masses?
If time could talk, would you answer the call
or would you fall for the rhetoric of the divisive
those seeking stare decisis
those staking claims to false prophets
and making odes to the lining of this frail world order
If time could talk, would we listen
to its clamor for peace
to its enduring message of experience
If time could talk, we would all be better
not because of us but because of what we would learn
if only time could talk
